Where You Are

A couple of weeks ago I was riding in my car with my cousin and we were listening to the local urban  radio station up here in New York, no free advertising for them, anyways after hearing Birthday Sex for the 3rd time within the hour between the 2 major station here the conversation quickly turned into a where are the real R&B dudes? As we talked and sometimes debated and even at some points argued about the state of R&B we both agreed that Trey was the truth. No Autune no gimmicks no bad boy posturing just straight r&b swag. That shit we used  to like about Jodeci, Guy  and R Kelly. O.k. Jodeci eventually burned and crashed under the weight of its own success and Guy eventually disappeared due to ego and infighting and the R well the verdict is out on dude he has a new album coming out maybe  Trey’s D.O.A diss track will light a fire underneath his ass. We will see.

READY his 3rd studio album due out August 31st  has the makings of a classic. Trey comes back with a vengeance straight R&B no bullshit from the intro ,”Panty Droppin”,  which is  a song that suffers from one thing and and one thing only it’s only an intro to the album. On  “Neighbors know my Name”   he also showcases a falsetto that almost rivals that of Maxwell’s “This Woman’s Work”. On “One Love” a mid-tempo track  Trey’s flow is ridiculous he weaves in and out of the track like jigga when he says “I know so many other dudes cheat… but so many other dudes aint me, I’ll pick you everytime ” there ‘s a part of you that believes him but then you realize that’s the swag talking. ” Say Ahh “  featuring Fabolous is that club shit makes you wanna pop something and get your 2 step on. As always Fab is the dude you gotta have if you are a R&B cat and you need a hot 16.  Of course Drake makes his appearence as well as Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy but it does not have that compilation feel.  On tracks like “Black Roses” and “Be Where You Are” Trey steps slightly out if the sound that he is known for but that doesn’t hurt he actually sounds comfortable.I could not end this without talking about the crazy Prince-esque joint “Yo Side of the Bed” . Trey takes the soulful-rock sound of Prince’s Purple Rain and shows us how he would have done it had it been his song. After putting a  hurting any track that was hot on the radio Trey returns with a solid album one that will make the women fall deeper in love with him and make dudes recognize his gangsta and hopefully radio will recognize his talent.   In the end Trey may be that dude that makes R Kelly leave the autotune alone and leave the corny ass kid concepts alone.
