what Summer in NYC used to sound like

Since we haven’t had much of a summer with all the rain and low temperatures I wanted to bring some sunshine. I was reminiscing about the music that I grew up with and decided to put together a mix that reflected what it felt like when I was younger. Growing up in Brooklyn New York during the 70’s was exciting to me I was too young to go and hang out with my older cousins and brother when they hit the club but I was old enough to remember the birth of hip hop. I remembered how exciting that was it was a new genre that I could actually relate to the people who did it looked like me and talked like me and felt like me. But what was interesting when I exposed my mom and dad to the “new music” they exposed me to the root of it. The music that made my music possible was even better than my music. It was jazz funk disco and soul all rolled up into one. There artist like Minnie Riperton ,Ronnie Laws, Grover Washington, Roy Ayers to name a few. Most of the tracks on this mix are well known not a lot of crate diggin I will save that for another mix. But hopefully it will make you feel like summer has arrived. I know these songs makee me feel like summer all year round so I thought I would share some of them with you
I will be making the individual tracks available for download to anyone interested in a day or so.
